The Long Dark - How far will you go to survive?

"We create worlds for you to play in. The Long Dark is our first one." - Says Hinterland Studio, established in 2012 by people who used to make triple-A titles, but decided to become more independent. Now they have achieved the ability to create video games that aren't mainstream, and because of that The Long Dark is being developed. Maybe one day we shall play it! Lets hope they will finish it, because it sounds like an interesting game, at least in my opinion.

To describe the story, they use the term "kind of quiet apocalypse". You play as William Mackenzie, a pilot, who's in the middle of his delivery flight in Northern wilderness, and something goes wrong. Wrong, or should I say beautifuly wrong! Because the aurora appears on the sky and instantly destroys all the technology of humanity, now the wild nature decides who gets to live and who doesn't.

"The Hinterland logo combines the fox, a symbol of cleverness and agility, with the Ouroboros, a symbol of eternal renewal."

The creative director Raphael van Lierop, compares the game to a survival sandbox. Your main tasks in the game will be looking for food and water, trying to survive any encounters with wildlife or humans. When you meet other people in this game, it doesn't necessairly have to end in violence. Sometimes you can trust them, but the consequences of your decisions will be clear later in the game. Technical Director Alan Lawrence says that the game won't be about combat, it's more about exploration and providing a unique experience. The game will focus on surviving and what goes with it - making difficult decisions. You might experience the worst from some people. A common thing in extreme situations, especially when there's an apocalypse of some kind, but this also includes you, the player.

They want it to be a mature and groundbreaking experience, something new in the industry. I wish them luck and hope I'll be able to play this game, and that it will be as good as they promise.
